Artifact 1: Final reflection from my first Diverse Education class
This artifact is a reflection on the concepts I studied in my Teaching and Learning in a Diverse Society class. I included this artifact because it shows my initial thoughts on inclusivity in the teaching profession. Taking this class was my first delve into the concept of inclusivity, so this artifact outlines an important step in the process of developing my teaching philosophy. Through my teaching internship, I have learned of many more facets of special education and DEI instruction than the ones I discuss in this reflection. I did not realize how many resources may be invested in a single student. I now better understand the commitment to inclusivity and special education that I will accept when I begin teaching.
Artifact 2: Lesson Plan with an ADHD accommodation
This artifact is a lesson plan from my Music in Special Education class. My assignment was to take an old lesson plan I had written in a different class and add an accommodation to it for any exceptionality of my choosing, so I took this lesson plan and added an accommodation for a student with ADHD. I selected this lesson plan because it shows my development in considering students with special needs in my classroom. I was able to find a strategy I from a scholarly journal article on teaching students with ADHD and implement it into a lesson. Over the course of my teaching internship, I have found the need to write specific accommodations for many students in each of my lessons, including multiple different exceptionalities. The work I did in this assignment built the foundation for my ability to consider exceptional students' needs in my lesson plans.
Artifact 3: Cultural and Socioeconomic Survey of a School Community
This is a survey of the Mount View Middle School community's cultural and economic demographics. I have included this writeup because it shows my attention to detail in the analysis of the school community and how I will use the data to inform my teaching. Building my awareness of the school community helped me give the students a learning experience that is more relatable to their lives outside of school. I developed the skill to analyze the students' cultural experiences and consider them for implementation in lesson planning.
