Artifact 1: Note-Reading Pedagogy Annotated Bibliography
This artifact is a collection of quotes from scholarly articles on music education that each pertain to teaching how to read notes. My reflections contain my interpretation of, my opinions on, and my ideas for implementation of each pedagogical idea. One way that this artifact contributed to the learning of my students during my teaching internship was my use of the strategy on page 4. The quote on page 4 proposes that students need their instructions to be phrased in an appropriate manner to be "led to discovery". I took this idea into consideration for all of my edTPA lessons as well as the way I teach elementary-age students who particularly require special attention to the way directions are phrased.
Artifact 2: Music Reading Lesson Plan
This artifact is a lesson plan from an assignment where I had to utilize reading and writing in an ensemble class setting including some sort of "Create" activity. I chose this artifact because I believe I went "outside of the box" for this lesson by having students write about a poem that Ralph Vaughan Williams took inspiration from to compose the piece of music being studied. I used a similar lesson structure for one of my edTPA project lessons during my student internship. Students were instructed to listen to a piece of music and reflect on the use of tempo changes. Writing the lesson plan from this artifact helped me come up with the idea for my edTPA lesson.
Artifact 3: Locomotion Music Lesson
This artifact is a music vocabulary lesson plan I used during my teaching internship for a 6th grade general music class. I included this lesson because I incorporated a special instructional strategy of physically moving around the classroom to the tempo of the music. This positively impacted the students by giving them a new way to conceptualize the relative tempo of a song. Walking to the tempo enables students to experience the speed of the song physically, which is not as apparent when clapping or tapping the tempo.
